Standard Weight Static Load Testing

The listed load rating is based on a safety factor of 1.88.

Our load tests are carried out in accordance with North American standards and requirements for the design of Cold-Formed Steel Structural Members, which are applied to local building codes. An engineering firm audits Hammond annually to verify our engineering processes and documentation.

UL2416 Weight Load Testing

UL2416 is a standard introduced in 2016 for racking systems that will house components and sub-assemblies intended to power, protect, heat, and cool. Products with the UL2416 rating are approved by an independent, third-party testing facility.

UL Listed 2416 Load Rated
UL defines the 2416 Load Rating in two variations, outlined below.

Wall Mount Cabinets are rated based on the cabinet's weight + the desired weight capacity to a two (2) x multiplier.

  • For example, if the weight of a wall mount cabinet is 200 lbs (empty) and the desired UL2416 Load Rating is 350 lbs, UL would have tested the cabinet to 1,100 lbs.
  • (200 + 350) x 2 = 1,100. In this case, the Static Load is 1,100 lbs, and the UL2416 Load Rating is 350 lbs.

Freestanding Racks and Cabinets are rated based on a four (4) x multiplier.

  • For example, if the desired UL2416 Load Rating is 3,000 lbs, UL would have tested the cabinet to 12,000 lbs.
  • 3,000 x 4 = 12,000. In this case, the Static Load is 12,000 lbs, and the UL2416 Load Rating is 3,000 lbs.
  • In addition to the above, freestanding racks and cabinets are also subjected to a 10-degree tilt test (fully loaded).

Static Load (Tested Load)
UL defines Static Load as the highest weight mass applied to a product without failure. There is no safety factor applied to the static load.

Rolling Load
Despite many competitors listing a rolling load, this is not part of the UL2416 standard. Rolling weight load is based on the maximum capacity of the casters installed.

Powder Coat Paint Process

What is the main ingredient in powder coat? The main ingredient of the powder is a polymer resin in addition to curing agents, pigments, leveling agents, flow modifiers, and other additives.

To provide a high-quality finish, our powder coat paint procedure consists of four stages. Each process adheres to high quality and environmental requirements to ensure minimal environmental impact while manufacturing long-lasting polymer coating.

The powder-coat finish is ideal for environments requiring minimal emissions for improved indoor air quality and reduced exposure to harmful chemicals. Our powder coat process produces zero emissions.

Are you looking for fire ratings? Some of our products are painted with powder coat that is rated ASTM E162 and ASTM E662. These paints include products that end with BK1, WH1, GY2, and LG2.

Zinc Plating Process

Hammond complies with ASTM B633 (zinc plating)

  • Type V (72 hours of salt spray)
  • Clear Trivalent
  • Rohs compliant
  • SC1 (Mild: 0.0002” min)

Zinc-plated steel is mild steel coated with a thin yet durable layer of zinc covering the product's surface, protecting the steel underneath. Compared to untreated and raw steel, zinc provides higher oxidation protection. Zinc corrodes at about 1/30th that of untreated, raw steel.

Note that zinc-plated components will still oxidize when stored in warm, humid conditions. SC1 is suited to interior environments with occasional condensation and only light wear or abrasion. If rust is a concern, the material should be painted or replaced with Stainless Steel or Aluminum materials.

Zinc-plated components have improved bonding as there is no insulating coating.
