316 Stainless Steel Enclosures

Hammond Manufacturing continues to expand the breadth of enclosures constructed from 316 stainless steel. A complete line of junction boxes, pushbutton boxes, wallmount, floormount and freestanding enclosures complemented with accessories such as air conditioners are now available in this most durable material. Compared to the more traditional 304 stainless steel, 316 stainless steel contains higher levels of chromium and the additional element molybdenum which make it the premium material for metal enclosure construction.

Traditional 304 stainless steel continues to support a majority of corrosion resistant applications, but with the development of harsher chemicals used in various processing operations, 316 stainless steel is growing in demand. Industries such as Pulp and Paper, Chemical, Pharmaceutical and Food Processing as well as installations located near seawater are all heavy users of 316 stainless steel.

Being a much stronger material than traditional carbon steel, many user of 316 stainless steel utilize the factory modification services offered by Hammond Manufacturing to pre-install their various device cutouts, pushbutton holes and conduit openings.
