Our Commitment to Sustainability

Hammond is committed to constantly improving our processes with sustainability in mind

Hammond remains committed to creating a cleaner environment for our workers, their families, and our community by constantly improving our processes with sustainability in mind.

Domestic Manufacturing
Our domestic manufacturing ensures a reduced carbon footprint and superior eco-friendly practices compared to overseas production. Additionally, purchasing a Hammond product manufactured domestically means shorter shipping distances to you, minimizing transportation emissions. Hammond is proud to exceed local and federal environmental standards in our manufacturing processes.

Paperless Drawings
Hammond has been “paperless” for over 15 years, installing screens on the shop floor to eliminate the need for paper drawings. Over the ensuing years, this has saved hundreds of thousands of pounds of paper. We also offer digital downloads of all product drawings on our website for customer use.

Scrap Metal Recycling
Our scrap metal is highly recyclable, and we continue to improve our environmental stewardship by adopting innovative recycling practices and waste capture. The established high demand for scrap metal ensures future reuse/recycling of our waste. We recycle all scrap metals, castings, and slag.

Powder Coat Reclaim / Reuse
Every year, Hammond reclaims 85% of the powder coat used. Our process includes the ability to reuse powder, keeping 322,315 lbs (146,200 kg) per year from ending up in a landfill. In addition, our powder coat produces zero emissions and complies with the Greenguard guidelines for indoor air quality, making our products ideal for education, healthcare, and office applications.

In-House Water Treatment
Approximately 98% of the water used in our paint process is recovered and reused. The remaining 2% is treated in-house to exceed municipal standards.

Audited Facility Waste Reduction

  • Throughout our facilities, we have an overall waste diversion rate totaling 98% (70% in steel and 28% in garbage). We are working toward the goal of a 100% recycling rate for our water, scrap steel, paper, and plastic waste.
  • We have a paper and cardboard recycling program to divert paper waste. Through this recycling program, 53 tons were recycled from our facilities in 2022.
  • Hammond provides e-waste recycling for employees and this program has diverted 20,000 lbs from landfills in the 10 years it has been in place.
